Happy Halloween!

Okay so I know Halloween was two weeks ago but I took some swatches of the nails I did for my friend's Halloween themed 21st. It was amazing!! The best themed party I have been to ever!

Check it out:

Sally Hansen Salon effects

Ghoulie Girl. So cute!! These are from the limited edition Halloween salon effects range:

As amazing as they look, I wasn't impressed with the nail strips. They took forever to apply and started lifting up already straight after I applied them. They are really cool though and the rest of the range has some amazing patterns and colours. I've got the hounds tooth ones which I'll swatch some time soon. They just take sooo long to apply so I'll need to set a bit of time aside to do this.

They are pretty expensive for one set of nail strips, though they are supposed to last 10 days (even though I took mine off a couple of days later). I've heard that if you use a hairdryer to mould them onto your nails it works better. I plan on buying some of the other ones from the range...perhaps the floral or lace ones so I'll try the hairdryer trick and let you know how it goes!

Here's a photo of my friend from the 21st...dressed as an angel. Amazing eyelashes and nails!!

Spring Clean

So I have been having MASSIVE clean out because I just got my tonsils out so I am stuck at home for the next couple of weeks :(

But this means I have had heaps of extra time to swatch! :)

Here are some old polishes I am getting rid of but I thought I would swatch them first:

Victoria's Secret Beauty Rush

This is a really nice neutral, french-pink cream polish. To get this colour I needed to do about 4 coats though which takes ages to dry so not ideal if you're in a hurry. I'm really into these pale tones at the moment but I am yet to find a polish that will give me this colour in 2 coats. Perhaps a Sally Hansen Insta-dri?…I’m pretty sure they make a whitey-pink cream….hmmm…I’ll need to look into that.

I couldn’t find names on these bottles anywhere. I got this and another (red) one last time I was in America (cute little bottles…I love the Beauty Rush range! They have some really nice moisturisers and body sprays. Great fragrances for summer.)

Rimmel Lasting Finish

Exotica. I looooove this red. A classic, true red with golden shimmer. Even though I am an OPI snob (hence finally clearing out my other polishes) I am so attached to this colour. This is 3 coats (and it really needs at least two in my opinion) but I think the top coat has really done the polish justice, giving it a high-shine, glossy finish. If you’re after a cheaper alternative, I definitely recommend! Very similar to OPI Thanks So Muchness from the Alice in Wonderland range. I’ll swatch that one soon to compare.

Go Cobalt. A deep navy blue with silver shimmer. Also a great colour from the Lasting Finish range but nothing too special. As I said before, I am a big fan of Rimmel as a cheaper alternative. This would be a nice evening colour to dress up an outfit, along with some big rings. Love big rings at the moment.

Electric. Just like the name, this is a bright pinky-purple cream with a high gloss finish. I love! I know I've said that about a lot of these colours...but hey, that's why I bought them right? This just goes to show how awesome this range is. Affordable, fun and long lasting.

Rimmel Professional Finish

Pop Rose. I absolutely LOVE this colour. The photo comes out really pink but it has a definitely purple tone in different lights. It reminds me of some kind of candy or something. The brush is nice and wide and it dries pretty quickly which is a plus. The only problem is pinks don’t look amazing on my skin colour. I’m much more of a red/purple girl. Anway, a great colour – highly recommend! Slightly more expensive than the Lasting Finish but still very reasonable for the quality you get!

Rimmel 60 Seconds

Sky High. Another great colour by Rimmel. This is from the 60 seconds fast dry range. Unfortunately the photo didn’t come out that well but it is sort of an aqua/turquoise greeny-blue. I really love this colour, but yet again another that doesn’t really suit my skin tone. This looks amazing on slightly darker tones which I unfortunately do not have. In any case, a really vibrant and fun colour!

Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure

Yellow Kitty. What an amazing colour! This is a great range. They have some really nice and different colours. At first I thought this was sort of like Fiercely Fiona from the OPI Shrek Forever range but now come to think of it, it’s slightly more pastel. Closer to Banana Bandana. I’m not a huge fan of yellows (this and OPI Need Sunglasses? Are the only two I own) but for someone who does, this is a beautiful creamy pastel yellow.

Sally Hansen Insta-Dri

Uptempo Plum. It's hard to see from the photo but this is a really deep purple (almost blackish) with purple glitter. The colour is cool but I was a little disappointed it didn't show up more like the way it looks in the bottle. When it dries it is really a deep brownish/red colour rather than a purple. The best thing about it is the wide brush...almost too wide for the bottle but it makes it really easy to apply.

Blazing Blue. Deep navy blue with blue glitter. Very similar to Uptempo Plum (above) but in blue. Another cool colour, I love that these dry so quickly. Great for if you are in a hurry and want a colour that will stand out.

Manicare Glamnails

Red, Red Wine. Just like the song, I love this polish. A deep blood red with high shine finish (this is even without top coat!) I got this for $1 on clearance at work - I work in a Pharmacy - and thought I'd give it a go. Little did I know it would actually turn out this well! Manicare do make some really good nail products but I really didn't expect their polishes to be any good, pleasant surprise!

Revitanail

Vividly Violet. This is a beautiful violet shimmer with a hint of silver/blue. I got this as a free give-away from work but I don't really see myself wearing this colour, even though it is really pretty...it's a bit shimmery for me!

Essence Colour & Go

Break Through. Bright Electric Purple with a really really subtle shimmer through it. I like this colour a lot. I bought it in Germany last summer. I liked it so much I actually bought 2 bottles when I was over there because I hadn't seen it in Australia before but I'm pretty sure some places here stock it now. This brand is dirt cheap in Germany - like most cosmetics :( - but I assume it would be a bit more here.

P2 Color Victim

Rich & Royal. Pale taupe cream. Another one I got in Germany. Never heard of this brand before but it actually has a really nice formula and stays on quite well. Similar to Essie Chinchilly or OPI Over the Taupe but perhaps a little warmer. Very popular colour at the moment :)

That's all I have for the moment. Just a bit of fun to start off my blog!
