Big Apple(s) Red!

No time for Jacques tonight unfortunately as I have to study and prepare some cute valentine's day nail art for tomorrow (shhhh it's meant to be a surprise!) but I did promise a post so how about some apples that I had prepared earlier? I was sporting these for a good 4 days last week - a record for me! Normally I get sick of a design after a day or two, or just want to try something else ;) These were just so cute I couldn't bear to take them off!

I'll let you see for yourselves....

Apples Nail Art

Final product :)

The main colour used (base red for apples) was one of OPI's most famous, Big Apple Red - how fitting!!

So here's what I did:

Step #1

First I painted apple shapes toward the tips of my nails - this is quite easy with the OPI brushes because they are nice and wide so you can just use simple downwards strokes and then touch the shapes up afterwards. This was 2 coats.

Step # 2

I then painted on stems using OPI's You Don't Know Jacques (I guess we did get to see a little Jacques after all!). I cheated a little and mixed in a dash of Black Onyx to make it a little darker because unfortunately I don't own a darker brown than Jacques (note to self: buy another brown).

Step # 3

I then added the leaves using OPI's Mermaid's Tears, a gorgeous dusty sage green from the Pirates of the Caribbean Collection of 2011. I also painted on a tiny bit of Gargantuan Green Grape to brighten the green, same deal as the brown for the stems.

Step # 4

As a final finishing touch I added the white stripes and dots to make the apples look even shinier using Alpine Snow. I actually went out and bought a brand new one of these the other day because I had run out of my mini one. Best. Purchase. Ever! It's just the whitest white ever and it goes on so well and dries really quickly - perfect for nail art!

If you like these send me your thoughts or suggestions of more designs I can try out. Hope everyone is having a great start to the week!

For now I must return to my spanish study .... hasta luego amigos!
