Happy Friday friends!! I'm assuming all of my fellow bloggers have heard/taken part in the trend that is "Fish Egg Friday", but for those who don't know, Fish Egg Friday is an online protest where bloggers from all around the world have been banding together against the brand Ciaté. Basically, Ciaté attacked various bloggers with Cease or Desist letters, demanding they stop using the term "Caviar" nail art, which they are in the process of trying to trademark as their own. They didn't come up with the whole "Caviar" nail art idea to begin with so they don't really have the right to do this! As frustrating as it is, it's actually quite amusing how ridiculous the whole fiasco is. I have really enjoyed seeing the polish blogging community unite together and the hilarious things they have to say about the whole drama. Check out this great post by the Polishaholic here.
It's funny because the "caviar" mani is something that I have been wanting to try for months, after seeing images pop up around various social media platforms like Pinterest and Twitter. Thanks to the Fish Egg Friday trend on twitter, and my inability to get around to doing this because I have been so busy, I have avoided inadvertently using the term "Caviar" and maybe getting myself into trouble haha. Argh, anyway.
Now that I'm all fired up, let me share with you my own attempts at fish egg nail art. I've actually tried two for today (because I wanted to badly to post some last week but I had sliced my finger open if you remember. So I'm making up for it today with two):
OPI Light My Sapphire with Black "Fish Egg" nail art
I love how these turned out. It's hard to see in the pictures (unfortunately they just didn't photograph as well as I would have hoped!) but I love the black micro beads with Light My Sapphire as the base. Great colour and the fish egg feature nail goes really well it.
Colourful gradient "Fish Egg" nail art
Base colours used:
- OPI Ogre The Top Blue (thumb)
- OPI Dating a Royal (index finger)
- OPI Funky Dunkey (middle finger)
- OPI Ate Berries in the Canaries (ring finger)
- OPI Pink Flamenco (pinky)
I think the colourful ones are my favourite but the black definitely look more authentic! haha.
Like many other bloggers, this incident has turned me off Ciaté and I don't plan on purchasing any of their products in the future. Thanks to Goose Glitter, I have been directed to this blog post, who blogged about this new nail art idea over a year ago. Here it explains how Dashing Diva came up with this idea way back then. To see the emails that Ciaté sent out, read this post by Pretty Digits.
