OPI Funky Dunkey with Sally Hansen Be-Jeweled Gem Crush

I'm feeling so guilty about not having written a post in a week (I think I needed a bit of a break after my 40 day run) so today I've prepared something special to make up for this at least. The other day I had a little splurge on Sally Hansen's new Gem Crush polishes so I thought I'd give you a little sneak peak of what is to come when I swatch and review them later this week. Today I've swatched a gorgeous purple from the OPI Shrek Forever Collection of 2010, Funky Dunkey. I had been planning to do this as part of my lent challenge but it always got pushed aside when I was inspired by a nail art idea. So here it finally is!

OPI Funky Dunkey

A creamy, rich, fully opaque medium purple creme. When I first saw the collection I knew I had to have this purple, as well as Ogre The Top Blue. It's a great vibrant colour and would look amazing with some light nail art over the top. I also thought it would be the perfect colour to use for some octopus nail art (after my fishies I've been imagining cute little octopuses to try next). I was wearing this when I bought my Gem Crushes and thought it would be a great base colour underneath 'Be-jeweled'. Which leads me to this . . .

Sally Hansen 'Be-Jeweled' Gem Crush

A clear-based purple glitter with fine purple glitter, slightly larger glitter and subtle pink holo glitter throughout. These polishes just reinforced to me how much I love Sally Hansen!! They came into work about a month ago and at first I didn't really take much noticed because, as you may have realised, I'm more of a 'creme' girl myself so glitters/shimmers have to be really awesome to stand out to me. Which these did when I saw them on the nails of one of my co-workers (Showgirl Chic - check out the swatches from Scrangie). I couldn't believe how awesome they looked and had to buy not one, but TWO (I am a uni student on a budget so for me this is a splurge). The other one I bought was 'Blingtastic' - still not really sure how I feel about these names but the collection is just to die for! I must also comment on the formula. Now, don't let me speak too soon but I am going to say that this was probably the best glitter formula I have tried so far. As I said I'm usually not much of a glitter girl so I'm not going off much experience here, but it was just so easy to use and went on smoothly and evenly over Funky Dunkey. Would you believe this is only one coat?! I am yet to remove them so I will let you know how the removal is when I've done it.

Anyway, I will have to swatch these properly on their own later this week so you can see the extent of their awesomeness. Hope you are having a great week so far! Stay tuned girls (and boys!) See you soon!

  1. Looks gorgeous, not that I'm a big fan of SH myself. But I did buy Disco Ball not that long ago as a subtle top coat and it's great. I love Funky Dunkly on you. I must have missed the whole Shrek collection!

I only have Funky Dunkey and Ogre the Top Blue but my sister has Rumple's Wiggin' and What's with the Cattitude and has been kind enough to let me borrow them a few times - I love Cattitude so much I'm going to buy one for myself. But yes all really cute colours!
