Been having a bit of a play around this past week with some nail art since my dotting tools and brushes arrived in the mail!!
With all this beautiful summer fruit I thought I'd have a go at some kiwis...very cute!
Process
What you need:
- White Polish
- Bright Green Polish
- Darker Green Polish
- Black Polish
- Dotting tools
- Fine Nail Art Brushes
- Lots of patience!!
Step 1 - base colour, middle green colour and white round semi-circle tip
Here I used Peace, Baby by OPI for the white. I then used Gargantuan Green Grape by OPI with a coat of Yellow Kitty by Sally Hansen underneath (to make the green a little brighter) and then finished with Peace, Baby again on top. The small white semi-circles actually turned a little yellow/greenish because Peace, Baby is quite sheer but I really liked this effect! It looks more like the actual middle of a kiwi fruit that way.
Step 2 - Darker green lines around centre white circle
Here I used Mermaid's Tears for the darker green line strokes. This was a little tricky because I painted the lines free-hand and the brushes get a bit clogged up after a while. You really need to clean the brush tips with remover after each nail otherwise the lines won't be as fine (you can see on my index finger how this happened.
Step 3 - Black dots
Here I used OPI Black Onyx for the dots. I used my brand new dotting tools! :D and they turned out pretty well I think. The main thing with the dotting tools is to not get too much polish on the ball-point end otherwise the dots will be uneven shapes and will vary from one another. I also cleaned the tools between each nail so that they wouldn't accumulate too much dry polish on the end. Also it's good to practise on a piece of paper before to get a sense of the size of the dot, etc.
And.... VOILÀ! there you have it, the final result!
