Day 44 - Hot Cross Bun Nail Art!!

Happy Thursday everyone! I've take a bit of a risk for today's nail art with some hot cross buns! I don't know about you guys but I absolutely LOVE hot cross buns! I know you're not really supposed to eat them way before Easter but I can't help but get my hands on some the day they come out in the supermarkets (often way too early like on New Year's Day this year..!!!) Anyway, the point is that these are probably one of my favourite things about this time of year so I thought I would take a step out of my comfort zone and have a go at doing some for art! Check out the final product:

EASTER NAIL ART #5

They were actually surprisingly quick to do but I did take a few steps to achieve this effect so I'll take you through my process. I started off with two coats of Sally Hansen Yellow Kitty:

I then added a coat of China Glaze Peachy Keen, leaving a little bit of yellow visible at the edges:

I then added another coat of Yellow Kitty on top:

I then got a bit creative and mixed three of my OPI colours, Tickle My France-y, You Don't Know Jacques and On The Same Paige to get the "rustic" orangey colour I was after:

I used a wide nail art brush to swiftly brush the colour (after I had mixed these together) over the nails, trying not to go over it too much and ruin the effect:

I then painted on crosses with one of my fine nail art brushes, using Yellow Kitty first as a base colour and then adding a thin coat of Peace, Baby over the top. I think this turned out really well because Peace, Baby is a sort of watery off-white colour so it gives the realistic effect of the crosses on hot cross buns that look like this because they are made of flour and water.

Here are some more swatches:

Hope everyone is having a great day! I will see you tomorrow for Good Friday, my third last post...how sad but exciting!

BUT, quickly before I go I want to say a big shout out to one of my bestest friends, Alice who I have practically known my whole life. She is a new blogger, like myself, and is the. most. amazing. cook ever!! So please check out her gorgeous blog, Miss Trixie Drinks Tea and especially the incredible Easter post that she has done today featuring some of her amazing baked goodies!

Until tomorrow my friends!

Day 43 - Rainbow Easter Egg Nail Art!

Happy Wednesday!! So so SO excited for today's post. I had been a bit stumped today as to what Easter nail art to do because I feel like I've exhausted the cutest options already (bunnies and chicks) and didn't want to disappoint. I'd planned to do this one all along but wasn't really sure how it would turn out because I knew it could go very, very wrong. But to my delight these turned out really cute! Check out the finished product:

I especially liked the combination of colours I used for the base colours of the eggs. Here's some swatches pre-art for you to see these awesome colours.

I thought pastels would be the best for bases because often Easter eggs are decorated in light/pastely, yet bright colours. Here's what I used (from thumb to pinky):

- China Glaze Peachy Keen
- American Apparel Butter
- China Glaze Re-Fresh Mint
- OPI Rumple's Wiggin'

and now for some more swatches of the egg nail art...

Easter Egg Nail Art

So cute! My favourite is the orange base with white and blue art on top (index finger).
The colours I used for the art on top are:

- OPI Shorts Story (pink)
- OPI Alpine Snow (white)
- OPI Gargantuan Green Grape (green)
- OPI What's With The Cattitude (blue)
- OPI Hot 'n' Spicy (orange)

Hope you enjoyed today's post. See you tomorrow!!
