Today I have for you my very first attempt of galaxy nails! I've been wanting to try this trend out for months and I took the plunge the other day when I was wearing my brand new Sally Hansen, Midnight in NY (super cheap deal at work, couldn't resist). I thought it would be a great base for some galaxy nails because it is such a gorgeous black with a super fine rainbow glitter. So let's get down to business.
Galaxy Nails
Before we get started, this is what you'll need:
- Base colour (the darker, the better)
- White polish (the thicker, the better)
- Two (or three) colours that compliment each other
- Makeup sponges (any type of sponge will also do)
- Glitter polish (preferably with different sized glitter)
- Dotting tool or toothpick
Step 1. Apply 2-3 coats of base colour
Here I used Midnight in NY from Sally Hansen, Complete Salon Manicure:
Step 2. With make-up sponge, apply white in diagonal pattern across each nail
Here I used OPI Alpine Snow:
Step 3. Apply first colour of choice with make-up sponge on top of white
Here I used OPI Do You Lilac It?
Step 4 - Sponge second colour around the edges of the first to add depth to design
Here I used OPI Dating a Royal.
Step 5. Using dotting tool, dot on a few random white dots on each nail
I used my finest one here
Step 6. Add your glitter, positioning larger glitter evenly across nail for effect
I used OPI Pirouette My Whistle, it's great because it has really fine glitter with some large hexagon glitter throughout as well. Perfect for galaxies.
How gorgeous are they?! And they were actually really easy to achieve.
For a little bit of courage and inspiration I watched some YouTube tutorials before I started. I am absolutely LOVING Andreas Choice at the moment. For those who don't know her, she is an incredibly creative and talented beauty vlogger. If you haven't seen any of her YouTube videos yet I would seriously recommend you check her out! Hope you enjoyed my tutorial. I'm just about to start attempt #2 of galaxy nails so stay tuned over the weekend. Until then!
